Robert Fulton

American inventor, engineer, and entrepreneur (1765–1815) best known for designing the first commercially successful steamboat. His other endeavors included a commission from Napoleon that resulted in the first practical submarine, the Nautilus. Partial manuscript DS, completely in Fulton’s hand, one page, 7 x 5, 1814. Order for four thousand bushels of coal to be delivered to four addresses, in part: “Coal...be deposited by a Mr. Fuller or of the company in 1814 at the following places.” Accompanied by a hand-colored engraved portrait and an FDC. In very good condition, with intersecting folds (one through the signature), areas of paper loss, scattered spots of toning and staining, and affixed to a slightly larger sheet. RRAuction COA.
