French inventor, aircraft designer, and self-trained pilot (1872-1936) who, in 1909, was the first man to fly across the English Channel and did so in an aircraft that he designed himself. Commemorative cover with a cachet honoring the dedication of the Municipal Air Terminal in Abilene, Texas, signed on the front in fountain pen, “L.
