Shepard’s personal 1944 copy of The Lucky Bag, the yearbook of the United States Naval Academy. Book measures 11.5 x 14.5, has 516 pages, and weighs an impressive 10 lbs. Leather cover bears an attractive raised image of Neptune emerging from the ocean and is embossed at the bottom, “A. B. Shepard, Jr.” Signed on the first inside page in blue ink, “Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr. ’45 USNA.” The yearbook is full of photographs from all of the aspects of student life at the Academy. Accompanied by a notarized letter of provenance stating that the book was acquired directly from the Shepard family. In fine condition, with some light wear to covers.
