He returned to Europe and became an enthusiastic supporter of the Nazis, starring in several propagandistic films. Vintage glossy 9 x 11.5 photo of Jannings from the 1939 biopic Robert Koch, der Bekämpfer des Todes, inscribed in German in fountain pen and signed “E. Jannings, 26.9.39.” The real-life Koch (1843–1910) was a Nobel Prize–winning German physician best known for isolating the anthrax and tuberculosis bacteria. The photo bears an eagle-with-swastika blindstamp at lower right.
