Description

John W. “Captain Jack” Crawford

Western scout (1847–1917) during the Indian Wars who later enjoyed a career as a popular poet, playwright, short story author, and entertainer. Annotated typed manuscript consisting of 12 typed pages containing letters, observations and poems, annotated in several areas by Crawford. Apparently this was a work in progress on Crawford’s life and literary works. Crawford writes at the bottom of one page below a clipped 1887 passage, “Note—This was written over 29 years ago. I am nearly 70 years of age now and despite the fact that I have been lecturing, writing, & entertaining continuously. Since this is the first instance where a publisher agrees to publish my poems and short sketches without demanding money to guarantee against loss.” In very good overall condition. RRAuction COA.
