Lenya gained fame in Berlin while appearing in The Threepenny Opera. Weill wrote “The Ballad of Mack the Knife” as a song for Lenya the night before the premiere. Two items: a 5.25 x 4.5 off-white album page signed in black ink by Weill; and a TLS, one page, 7 x 10, personal letterhead, May 30, 1975. Letter from Lenya to Mr. Warren Lyons, in part: “You may add my name to your committee list, whereby I specifically request of you that this means no further involvement for me except the sole purpose specified in your letter: to pay tribute to Ira Gershwin.” In overall fine condition.
