Document signed at governor of Virginia appointing “Valentine Bird, ensign in the Battalion of the forty sixth regiment, the eighteenth brigade, and third division of said milita.” Signed at the conclusion by Monroe and countersigned by Samuel Coleman. In good to very good condition, with professional repairs to several fold separations on reverse, several other separations along intersecting folds through body of text, damp staining to center, and scattered light toning and soiling.
