LS signed “Jono. Trumbull,” one page, 8 x 9.75, October 24, 1808. Letter to David Lenox, President of the U. S. Bank in Philadelphia. In part: “I addressed a line to you…requesting you to forward the prints which I troubled you with…I presume the letter must have miscarried as I have received no answer, and Mr. R. Lenox tells me you have made no mention to him. I have requested Captain John Legar of the sloop Melinda…to present this letter to you, and will thank you to deliver the Box & Fire Case with the prints which they contain, to him.” At the bottom, Legar has written, “Received October 27th 1808 from David Lenox two boxes agreeably to the above letter which I promise to deliver Col. Jno. Trumbull in good order. The danger of the Seas only excepted, repaying freight as customary. John Legar.” Second integral page bears an address panel in another hand. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through single letter of signature, and a mild shade of toning, with a heavier circle from wax seal. RRAuction COA.
