American character actress (1880–1962). In 1939, after a well-regarded stage career and a string of small, often uncredited movie parts, Blandick landed her most memorable role—Auntie Em in MGM’s The Wizard of Oz. After Oz, Blandick returned to supporting and bit roles and committed suicide by suffocation at the age of 81. Pencil signature, “Clara Blandick,” on the reverse of a 3.5 x 5.5 postcard featuring the Hollywood Canteen. The postcard has also been signed by five others in pencil and crayon, Lucien Littlefield, Fay Holden, Shirley Doble, Nancy Guild, and Van Johnson. In very good condition, with scattered irregular toning and light pencil smudging. RRAuction COA.
