Description

The United States’ third and fourth presidents boldly sign an Ohio land grant

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.5 x 8.5, January 20, 1809. A land grant issued to Nicholas Delong of Franklin County, Ohio “for the West half…section number thirty-five” under an “Act of Congress entitled ‘An Act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States in the territory north-west of the Ohio and above the mouth of the Kentucky River.’” Signed at the conclusion by President Jefferson and Secretary of State Madison. In very good condition, with bisecting folds, scattered foxing and wrinkling, lightly affecting both signatures, toning and cracking to intact seal, and a few edge chips. Both signatures are largely unaffected by the flaws and, while the latter half of Jefferson’s surname is somewhat lighter than the first half, both signatures are bold and highly readable. A nice format for display. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
