DS, signed “Horatio Gates, Major General,” one page, 6.25 x 4, April 24, 1778. Written at Yorktown, Gates signs a pass for two men. In full: “The Bearers Samuel Pleasants & James Pemberton, are hereby permitted to proceed to Lancaster, Agreeable to the direction of the Executive Council of this state.” Reverse bears a pass for the same two men, dated one day earlier. In very good condition, with rough edges, two folds, some scattered light toning and soiling, and light show-through from writing on reverse. RRAuction COA.
