Description

Handy submits another work which he says “will lend itself to improvisation just like the old copy of ‘St Louis Blues’ served as a dance arrangement for fourteen years”

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, W. C. Handy Music Publishers letterhead, August 5, 1932. Letter which originally accompanied an arrangement. In part: “The enclosed professional copy of ‘Way Down South Where The Blues Began’ is deserving of your careful consideration and for which we have a full vocal orchestration that has high spots for your singer and when played over several times will lend itself to improvisation just like the old copy of ‘St Louis Blues’ served as a dance arrangement for fourteen years.” Handy also adds a brief handwritten postscript, “You may prefer to make your own arrangement.” In very good condition, with three small holes to center, slight separations along mailing folds, and some scattered light toning and creasing.
