Description

Houdini checks on the welfare of friend and fellow de-bunker Albus

TLS signed in pencil, “HH,” one page, 7.25 x 5, personal letterhead, January 20, 1925. Brief letter to Remigius Weiss. In full: “Why is it that I have not heard from you? Anything wrong? Hope all is well.” Houdini adds in his own hand, “2 U 2,” at the closing. Double suede matted and framed with a penetrating portrait of Houdini and a small plaque, to an overall size of 20 x 16. Weiss, better known as Albus, was Houdini's friend from Philadelphia, and worked with Houdini on his Mess Up the Mediums crusade. Remigius helped Houdini in boring holes in the floor, ceiling and doors in a room in Philadelphia where Dr. Henry Slade, a popular slate medium, was to give a séance. Concealed observers reported Slade's methods. Remigius threatened to have the medium arrested unless Slade signed a confession. Another one of Slade’s spiritual acts was to cause writing to appear in a book. Weiss challenged Slade to make the writing appear, but instead of using a regular book, he provided a locked book. As a result Slade was not able to make the messages appear. In fine condition, with a mild shade of toning, and bisecting mailing folds. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
