Description

Byrd gratefully accepts an expedition donation: “It is very seldom indeed, in fact extremely rare, for anyone to donate to the expedition voluntarily without being importuned”

TLS signed “R. E. Byrd,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, May 10, 1933. Letter of thanks to Godfrey Cabot for a sent donation. In part: “I am deeply grateful to you for the check you have sent for the expedition. It is very seldom indeed, in fact extremely rare, for anyone to donate to the expedition voluntarily without being importuned. The spirit in which you have done this, therefore, means a great deal to me. I am much interested in your suggestion about chlorine. I am taking this up with Dr. Shirey who reaches Boston within the next three weeks.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, with a horizontal fold through signature, and a received stamp to top left.
