Description

“The view which you have taken of the last law ... corresponds partially with mine”

ALS signed “Jas. Monroe,” one page, 7 x 5.75, April 11, 1815. Letter written as Madison’s Secretary of State, shortly after the end of the War of 1812, regarding recent legislation. In full, “I have read with attention the draft of a letter to the board of officers, which you sent me this evening, and see nothing to object to in it. The view which you have taken of the last law, in connection with the proceeding laws, bearing on the subject, corresponds partially with mine, so far as I had examined it.” In very good condition, with a couple of partial separations along intersecting folds, several chips and tears to trimmed edges, light show-through from docket on reverse, and some mild toning. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
