Description

Sharply signed Guillotin medical document

Rare DS, in French, signed “Guillotin,” one page, 7.5 x 7.5, February 28, 1810. Document headed “Free Consultation of the Academy of Medicine of Paris,” with a handwritten list in a column on the left headed “Names of the Academicians called for consultation,” with six names listed, with column on the right bearing the signatures of the Academicians, Guillotin’s being at the top. After being freed from prison in 1794 after Robespierre fell from power, Guillotin abandoned his political career to resume the medical profession, and would become one of the founders of the Academy of Medicine of Paris. In fine, bright condition, with some scattered light foxing, and small tape remnant to reverse. A truly exceptional example of this scarce inventor, who was actually against the death penalty.
