Description

Beautifully displayed Lee signature accompanied by a lock of his hair, and a swatch from his actual “battle flag”

Large ink signature, “R. E. Lee,” on an off-white 4 x 2 slip. Elaborately double-gilt matted and framed is this wonderful tribute to Confederate General Robert E. Lee. First, the viewer is treated to Lee’s rare and desirable penmanship, which remains strong and proclaims “R.E. Lee.” Situated above the leader’s autograph is his oval portrait. Also set within the decorative display is a small lock of Lee’s hair, and adding to the impressive quality of this framed remembrance is a .25 x .25 square piece of blue cloth, which was reportedly once a part of the General’s battle flag. The decorative showpiece measures to 25 x 21 overall dimensions and is accompanied by photocopied provenance from Charles Hamilton attesting to the authenticity of the lock of hair. In fine condition with a couple of light creases. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
