Description

Under the thumb of machine boss Pendergast, Judge Truman builds his political acumen while he builds highways

DS, one page, 8.5 x 13, March 11, 1929. Before he became President of the United States, one of Harry Truman’s greatest accomplishments as Presiding Judge in Missouri was administrating the vast Jackson County Highway construction project, which resulted in the County benefitting from one of the finest highway systems in the country. Setting in motion this important plan, this court order document twice signed by Judge Truman ordered the surveying of Colburn Road in Jackson County for its eventual widening and relocating. (It was at the dedication for Colburn road, in fact, where Truman announced his candidacy for reelection.) Both brilliant examples of Truman’s signature were penned at the bottom of the page, which itself remains clean with only punch and staple holes along the top edge. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
