Souvenir typescript, one page 8.5 x 11, May 1, 1945. Karl Dönitz’s (1891-1980) famous avowal that he was handpicked by Adolf Hitler to succeed the German dictator is memorialized in this autographed souvenir. Dönitz signed the item in blue fountain pen at bottom left to read, “Dönitz 14.12.73.” The document bears creasing, a couple of tears along the right edge, and scattered instances of light toning, otherwise fine condition. This typescript of Dönitz’s “Broadcast to the German People, May 1, 1945” begins: “The Fuhrer has nominated me as his successor. In full consciousness of my responsibilities I therefore assume leadership of the German people at this fateful hour.” RRAuction COA.
