Nimitz recounts his greatest military achievement: “When the Japanese came on board Missouri to surrender”

Three items: handwritten response to a collector’s question, written at the bottom of a 1961 typed letter to Nimitz, In response to the question “I am wondering if you would kindly consider telling me the one day that was most memorable in your distinguished military career,” Nimitz writes “2 Sept. 1945 (E. Long date) when the Japanese came on board Missouri to surrender. CWN”; a ballpoint signature and inscription, “To Thomas K. Boyce, Best wishes, C. W. Nimitz, Fleet Admiral, U. S. Navy”; and another ballpoint signature on a light blue 8 x 10 sheet, with two affixed newspaper photos. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with wrinkling and tape toning to blue sheet. RRAuction COA.
