Vintage, 6.25 x 10 photo, signed in fountain pen. Pioneering microbiologist and winner of the 1945 Nobel Prize in Medicine, Alexander Fleming (1881-1955) is pictured in this photograph, not surprisingly, while hard at work in his laboratory. The important luminary of the medical profession—who shared the 1945 Prize for his role in the discovery and isolation of penicillin—boldly signed and dated the keepsake in fountain pen, “Alexander Fleming, 1951.” Wrinkling and creasing is confined to the borders, and light toning affects the top of the piece. On the reverse, the delicate heirloom benefits from a small repair that has been applied to the lower left. We mention these superficial faults for the sake of accuracy in description, as most of the flaws are easily subdued, and otherwise negated, by employing a matted-and-framed arrangement; fine overall condition.
