William Eustis

Secratary of War under Madison during the War of 1812, also a Massachusetts governor. ALS signed “W. Eustis,” one page, 8 x 10, May 31, 1818. Letter to the U. S. Consul in London, Thomas Aspinwall. In part: “We anticipate a comfortable voyage. Your friends here have been very kind & attentive.” He goes on to promise to send an account of monies disbursed via Mr. Appleton, and again thanks Aspinwall for his courtesy. Integral second page bears an address panel in another hand. In fine condition, with light overall toning, intersecting folds, one through first initial, and a small pencil notation to top edge.
