Black band leader who died at 45 in 1947 when he suddenly collapsed; rumors persist that he was poisoned by a racist restaurant owner who was very reluctant to feed his band. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 publicity photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To H. B. Colstore, Best wishes from Jimmie Lunceford 2/24/36.” In very good condition, with scattered creases and surface marks, mounting remnants to reverse, slight silvering, and a few spots of wear to emulsion.
