Description

Lindbergh gets cranky with a top general

TLS signed “Charles A. Lindbergh,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 24, 1962. Lindbergh writes a letter to General J. L. Whitney, who had sent an earlier telegram to Lindbergh forwarded to him in Switzerland. In part: “I am sorry that you have been caused inconvenience in this instance. I can only say that while this is one instance to you, it is one of thousands of similar instances that have involved time and inconvenience for me. If I had spent my entire time for the last thirty-five years answering the mail that has been sent, much of it requesting autographs, which to me seem of the most trivial importance, the piles would still be stacked high in front of me. Except at intervals, I do not have a secretary, and I doubt that you can realize the amount of time that is required to correspond about and attempt to locate packages such as the one you put in the mail. It seems to me there are so many other worth-while things to do in life....” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with bisecting mailing folds. Interesting relevant content about the topic of autograph collecting by one of the most sought-after signers of his day. RRAuction COA.
