Difficult-to-find limited edition color lithograph titled “Great Moments in Aviation History,” numbered 1055/1100, 25.5 x 24.5, signed in pencil by 15 important figures in American flight: Neil Armstrong, George A. Vaughn, Jr., Leigh Wade, James H. Doolittle, Curtis E. LeMay, George Gay, Joe Foss, John W. Mitchell, Charles E. Yeager, Gail S. Halverson, Paul W. Tibbets, Frances S. Gabreski, Pete Knight, Michael J. Novosel, and Robin Olds, and also signed by the artist, William J. Reynolds. The first official “Gathering of Eagles” (then known as “Great Moments in Aviation History”) was in 1982, when a small faculty and student group at the Air Command and Staff College was chartered to develop an aviation heritage program. This initial cadre designed a program encouraging the study of aviation history and the contributions of aviation pioneers. These 15 distinguished aviators were invited to share their unique personal experiences through a series of teaching interviews and social events with members of the class. This first edition (1982) of the Air Command and Staff College prints was the only edition signed by Armstrong. In fine condition, with a small vertical crease at bottom (not affecting any signatures) and a small tape repair to the separated corner tip at bottom right, neither flaw detracting from the striking presentation.
