Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in ink “To my pal Bill Hays, Jr., Best to you & the Boys’ Club of Sullivan, Indiana, your old pal, Jack Dempsey” and “Bill—Tell the gang I’ll be out to see them soon, Jack.” William Hays (Sr.) was Postmaster General in the Harding administration who later headed the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, in which capacity he oversaw enforcement of the notorious “Production Code” that imposed strict censorship guidelines on all Hollywood films for decades.
