A second cousin of Lucille Ball, Suzan Ball (1934–1955) embarked on a promising Hollywood career with appearances in several adventure films in the early 1950s. Though she was diagnosed with cancer in 1953 and lost her leg to amputation, Ball went on to marry actor Richard Long and to resume her career. She finally succumbed at the age of 21.
