Description

“The more the merrier,’ certainly applies to a bunch of live, care-free motorcycle riders”

Featured here is a typed letter signed by the President and co-founder of the Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Arthur Davidson. Showcasing the entrepreneurial savvy that made “Harleys” an immediately identifiable designation, Davidson confidently explains to his newest satisfied customer why he can’t go wrong with the “Harley” name! In fact, “bring all your friends” is the theme of this charismatic correspondence. Dated February 20, 1936, the message declares in part: “It was mighty fine of you to send in the names of your friends who have become interested in motorcycling since you have had your Harley-Davidson…. Each friend of yours who becomes a Harley-Davidson owner will mean just that much more fun for you. ‘The more the merrier,’ certainly applies to a bunch of live, care-free motorcycle riders…. You are doing your friends a favor by telling them about this wonderful sport…. As a small token of thanks for your interest, we are enclosing one of our beautiful bar wing pins. Please consider this letter an invitation to you and your friends to visit our factory at any time it suits your convenience…. We know you will enjoy seeing how Harley-Davidsons are built from raw material right to the final test….” The bottom of the 8.5 x 11 page is signed in black ink, and the writing displays nicely against the very clean Harley-Davidson Motor Co. letterhead; very fine condition.
