Description

Scarce signed photo of the German master

Having achieved a measure of musical transcendence known to a decidedly limited number of individuals, Johannes Brahms made use of a symphonic genius that yielded several classical masterpieces (his best-known work titled “Brahms Lullaby”). Widely considered a hierarch of the romantic period, Brahms’ influence has garnered the craft’s greatest laurels. Both traditionalists and innovators alike rank the maestro’s work among those brought to life by Johann Sebastian Bach and Beethoven. A unique memento celebrating that distinguished personage is offered in this signed albumen photograph picturing the classical German composer himself. Set atop a 3.75 x 5 mount, the image is that of the venerable musician in his later years, a mature gentleman immersed in a selection from his study. On the reverse, Brahms penciled the initials “J. Br.” with the writing retaining every bit of its legibility. This black-and-white showpiece, good overall, admits of surface faults attributable to the passage of time (the image area is lightly faded and bears some negligible creasing), yet its strong display properties overcome these subtle imperfections. A rare instance of Johannes Brahms’s image and signature found in one medium! The 3 x 4.25 photograph exhibits good condition. RRAuction COA.
