Just six months into his newly elected “role” as Governor of California, Ronald Reagan penned this draft of a letter to an acquaintance noted simply as “Sam.” Evidently still enamored with the goings-on of Hollywood, the future President expresses an affinity for a certain film, and describes his awe for the day’s special effects. Reagan explains: “Heaven only knows when I’ll be able to get to L.A. but believe me I’d love to have a print of the film. We have a 16 mm sound outfit at home. We did get to see it one night when Pat Frawley had a showing. I still marvel at what you were able to do in giving the illusion of action with those magnificent paintings. I’m very proud to have been a small part of it.—Again thanks & Best Regards—(signed) Ron.” Governor Reagan’s cursive hand was neatly scripted in black ballpoint, and found at top right of the lightly lined 8 x 5 page is the date June 19, 1967 (which was added later by one of Reagan’s secretaries). The canary-colored page remains in fine condition. RRAuction COA.
