Partly printed DS as President, one page on vellum, 15.5 x 19, January 17, 1883. A commission for Alfred Mordecai as lieutenant colonel in the Ordnance Department. Mordecai (born 1840) served at the First Battle of Bull Run and was brevetted lieutenant colonel for distinguished services on the field and in the ordnance department. He went on to command the arsenals at Leavenworth, Governor’s Island, and Watervliet, and later became Inspector of Ordnance. Countersigned by Robert Lincoln as Secretary of War.
