American child actor (1931–1980) best known for his role as “Buckwheat” in nearly 100 installments of the Our Gang comedy series. One of the most distinctive and beloved members of the “Gang”—his trademarks included wide-eyed double takes and pigtails that would stand on end when he was “ascared”—Buckwheat/Thomas dropped out of show business after his contract expired, and later found work as a film technician for Technicolor. Elusive vintage matte-finish 5 x 7 photo of Buckwheat in a football jersey, pads, and helmet, signed in fountain pen with his childhood “Buckwheat.” Accompanied by the original Hal Roach Studio mailing envelope. In fine condition, with scattered silvering to darker areas at bottom, and a couple of spots of light soiling (one under last letter of signature).
