Two items: TLS, signed “Dick Nixon,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 12, 1968. Nixon writes to Douglas B. Marshall in Houston. In part: “I learned of your generous contribution just prior to my leaving for Miami; however, this the the first opportunity I have had to tell you of my deep personal appreciation for your assistance to our campaign. Your contribution, coming as it did prior to my nomination, was particularly meaningful, and I want you to know how grateful I am for your confidence and support; they will mean a great deal to me in the crucial months ahead….” Also: a personal check for $500.00 made out to Nixon by Meredith J. Long, August 2[?], 1968, endorsed on the reverse “Richard M. Nixon” and bearing the ink stamp of the Nixon Agnew Campaign Committee. In fine condition, with two file holes to top margin of letter and light mailing fold through signature, fold to check (away from signature), and light bank stamp to first name. An interesting direct association with the campaign that finally put Nixon into the White House! JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
