American writer (1789–1851) best known for his series of Leatherstocking Tales and the novel Last of the Mohicans. Crisply penned ALS in French, signed “J. Fenimore Cooper,” one page, 5.25 x 7.75, February 5, 1831. An untranslated letter to Monsieur Leris, written while Cooper lived and traveled in Europe, mentioning a possible meeting in Anjou.
