Description

TRUMAN signs a dramatically oversized portrait for the Captain of the U.S.S. Little Rock

Vintage oversized matte-finish 20 x 15.25 photo of Truman looking over some papers at his desk, signed and inscribed in fountain pen (most likely as President) “To the Captain of the U.S.S. Little Rock, with kindest regards, Harry S. Truman.” The Little Rock was a United States Navy Cleveland-class light cruiser that was later converted to a Galveston-class guided missile cruiser, and is currently the only World War II cruiser on display in the U. S. Research shows there were at least six commanders on the Little Rock during Truman’s terms, so perhaps this photo hung in the commander’s office or stateroom. Matted to an overall size of 24 x 20. In very good condition, with trimmed horizontal edges, several edge creases, and scattered staining from residue over image, not affecting the large and bold signature. The largest Truman photo we’ve seen! JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
