In part: “My parents went out to Arizona for the winter months and are living near my sister, June in Bisbee, Arizona. Evidence indicates my mother has pancreatic cancer but it has not been absolutely confirmed. She is seeing a well regarded specialist in that field in Tuscon [sic] and is considering trying an experimental treatment that is available there. We visited them over New Year’s and she seemed to be doing pretty well….” Armstrong’s mother, Viola, would pass away in 1990.
