Description

“The prettiest, most masterful upset that boxing has ever seen”

TLS, signed in ballpoint “Muhammad Ali,” one page, 8.5 x 11, pictorial stationery, September 16, 1974. A printed form letter sending thanks and good wishes. In part: “I feel good now. I’m in good shape and razor sharp. In case you were a little aprehensive [sic] regarding my upcoming fight, let me inform you that this is going to be the prettiest, most masterful upset that boxing has ever seen. I guarantee this, and I couldn’t be more serious. Please forgive the brevity of this letter, but I have much to do and must move on….” The letter evidently relates to the famous “Rumble in the Jungle” with George Foreman, which took place on October 30, 1974, during which Ali employed his famous “rope-a-dope” technique in scoring his historic victory. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Horizontal mailing fold to first name, and a hint of mild handling wear and edge toning, otherwise fine condition. Great, characteristic content related one of Ali’s most fabled bouts! JSA/Mike Gutierrez Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
