Description

Signing an official 1596 document

British monarch (born 1566) who ruled as James VI of Scotland from 1567 and as King of Great Britain (the first ruler so designated) from 1603 until his death in 1625. During his reign as England’s first Stuart king, James authorized the well-known version of the Anglican Bible which came to bear his name and oversaw his country’s involvement in the Thirty Years’ War. Scarce DS, in Old English, boldly signed “James R,” one page, 6.25 x 3.75, July 1596. An untranslated official document. Matted and framed with an antique portrait engraving to an overall size of 10 x 16. In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds (touching signature; tiny separations elsewhere) and light scattered toning and soiling. The writing is dark and clear throughout. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
