Series 1953 B two-dollar bill, signed on the portrait side in black felt tip. Emile de Antonio had been pressuring Eleanor Ward to give Warhol a show at her Stable Gallery in New York. As Warhol remembers it, the three of them met and, after de Antonio asked Ward if she was going to take Warhol on, she took out a two- dollar bill and said, “Andy, if you can paint me this, I’ll give you a show.” She did, in the fall of 1962, after Warhol had produced a series of dollar bill paintings. The response to his first New York show was immediate and powerful. Within the Manhattan art world, at least, Andy Warhol was famous. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
