Professional wrestler and sometime actor (1903–1971) known in the wrestling world as the Super Swedish Angel. Johnson is best remembered for his roles in a number of schlock classics, including Ed Wood’s iconic Plan 9 from Outer Space. Scarce vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Johnson in a ferocious mood, signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “Best wishes to my buddy Harry Thomas, Swedish Angel” [his wrestling name]. The reverse bears (possibly in his hand) Johnson’s contact information and agent’s name. The inscribee was the makeup artist for several of Ed Wood’s films, including Plan 9 and Glen or Glenda? The same image was used on the cover of The Knockout magazine for August 21, 1948; a photo of the cover is included. In good condition, with pinholes, chips, and adhesive traces to corners, scattered dings, impressions and creases (touching signature), writing retraced in a different ink, and poor contrast to signature against dark background (though visible from an angle).
