Description

Sign of the South: A superb Disney signature with photo documentation from the original recipient

Superb vintage ballpoint signature, “Walt Disney,” on a yellow 5.5 x 4.25 album page. The page is accompanied by documentation from the original recipient, including a signed letter stating that she obtained the signature at the Atlanta Airport on June 7, 1956. Also included is a copy of a front-page newspaper photo from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, showing the original recipient (in mouse ears and Mouseketeer tee shirt) obtaining the signature from Disney. The caption reads: “Walt Disney signs his autograph for an admiring Saundra Hesse after arriving at the airport here. Disney is in town for the world premiere of his movie ‘The Great Locomotive Chase,’ at Loew’s Grand Theater Friday.” More than two decades earlier, the Atlanta Loew’s also hosted the premiere of a somewhat better-remembered film: Gone with the Wind. The signature is housed (by itself) in the original autograph album. Faint, unobtrusive spot to first name and light pencil notations, otherwise fine condition. A beautiful example with an unusually well-documented provenance! RRAuction COA.
