Important photographer (1879–1973) who was one of the pioneering figures in the field of “art” photography. In 2006, a copy of his 1904 photograph The Pond—Moonlight sold at auction for $2.9 million, setting a new record for the medium. Pearl-finish 4.75 x 7 photo, signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “To the Brownes with all good wishes, Edward Steichen.” The original inscribee, Kenneth Browne, was a well-known collector. In very good condition, with creasing to two corners, irregular ink adhesion (Steichen retracing last name with only partial success), and a few tiny spots. RRAuction COA.
