Handsome leather-bound autograph album, early 1840s, 4.75 x 7.25, the heavily tooled red morocco cover bearing the gilt-stamped legend “The Senate and House of Representatives U.S. for Miss Eliza G. Kerr.” The interior contains approximately 130 mostly single-sided ink signatures, several to a page. The more notable signers include: John Tyler, James Buchanan (adding “of Pennsylvania”), John Quincy Adams, Millard Fillmore, Thomas H. Benton, future Chief Justice Levi Woodbury, J. C. Calhoun, Rufus Choate, Nathaniel B. Borden (adding “Fall River, Mass.”; evidently a relative of the infamous Lizzie Borden), W. P. Fessenden (future Treasury Secretary under Lincoln), John P. Kennedy (future Secretary of the Navy), and others. In fine condition overall, with light wear to binding, removal of several blanks at end, and light scattered soiling, toning, and staining. The majority of the signatures are clear and dark. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
