Description

Aiding a female colleague who “would rather go to Palestine because of idealistic reasons”

TLS in German, signed “A. Einstein,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 26, 1924. Einstein writes from Berlin to Professor [Leonid] Dolshansky in Jerusalem. In part (translated): “I suppose you are familiar with the case of the pathological and anatomical private lecturer Dr. Getzow, Bern. In the course of his correspondence with the Hadassah, especially with Mr. Dr. Tennenbaum, she was offered a job in Jerusalem which was suddenly postponed because of the following telegram: ‘Our offer May 30th cancelled herewith, Tennenbaum’…. Because the university authority of Bern will provide the outstanding and qualified woman with outstanding sponsorship, but she would rather go to Palestine because of idealistic reasons. I would appreciate it in the interest of the economic development in Palestine if you would be so kind to solve the matter in consultation with Mr. Dr. Tennenbaum and lead it to a positive and clear result….” In good to very good condition, with several intersecting folds (one just touching signature; short edge separations elsewhere), punch holes to left edge and rusty paperclip mark to top edge, wrinkling, and soiling and staining (mainly to top margin; a few spots elsewhere). JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
