Matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Einstein relaxing in his study with his pipe, signed and inscribed in black ink, “Für Dr. Haussner, A. Einstein 45.” The photo is captioned in another hand on the reverse “Dr. Albert Einstein, Princeton. Feb. 1945. Photo by Alan W. Richards, Palmer Lab, Princeton, N. J.” The Palmer Physical Laboratory was completed in 1908 and originally housed the classrooms and offices of Princeton’s Physics Department. In 2000, Palmer was renamed the Frist Campus Center after it was renovated and enlarged with money from the family of Senator Bill Frist. Alan W. Richards began work as a photographer at Princeton in the 1940s, and was active through the 1960s. Present at almost every Princeton event, his photographs documented the life of the university community. Very subtle soiling, small unobtrusive crease to arm at lower left, and mounting residue to reverse, otherwise fine condition. JSA/John Reznikoff Auction LOA and RRAuction COA.
