In part: “We were confronted with what seems to be a fairly well organized whispering campaign directed against Coca-Cola on two counts: 1. That it encourages decay of the teeth, and 2. That it produces kidney trouble. Dad had a conversation about this with Delony Sledge, as a result of which, Delony wrote a letter to Dick Bennett, manager of the plant at Eau Claire. I think the letter has so much good common sense in it and it is such a fine discussion of a very important phase of any Coca-Cola bottling operation that I am sending it to the managers of all the plants in which I have any interest….” Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence.
