Howe writes from South Portsmouth, Rhode Island to Mrs. Harvey. In part: “I accept the terms proposed in your letter … to wit, thirty dollars and travelling expenses. I am to lecture in West Chester, Pa. in January 26th, and could visit you either just before or just after fulfilling this engagement…. I am not sure of being able to reach you on Jan 27th in time for a lecture, and perhaps you would not wish me to give mine on Saturday evening.
