Description

Bobby Jones

Golfer (1902–1971) who, in 1930, became the only Grand Slam winner in the sport’s history, taking the U.S. and British Open and U.S. and British Amateur titles. Over the course of his career, he would win a total of four U.S. Open titles, five U.S. Amateur titles, and three British Open titles. TLS signed “Bob,” one page, 8.5 x 11, law firm letterhead, March 17, 1949. Jones writes to Rufus E. Brown, manager of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Rutland. In full: “I would like you to tell me about the item of $45.52 for silverware for a wedding present. The Community Chest contribution is all right provided this is the total for the year and not a quarterly or semi-annual payment. From now on, consult me about expenditures of this kind. Your truck operation and maintenance looks pretty high. I suppose you are now setting out to do something about it….” Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence. Mailing fold through signature and staple holes, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
