Ban Johnson

Baseball executive who served as the founder and first president of the American League. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 as one of its charter members. TLS signed “B. B. Johnson,” one page, 8.5 x 11, April 13, 1923. Letter to Yankees General Manager Ed Barrow. In part: “I issued a party pass to the new Postmaster General, Harry S. New…When he advanced from Senator to the Cabinet, I decided to extend him this courtesy…I told him the New York Club would be very glad at any time he was in that city to set aside a box for him and his friends.” Pencil cancellation to text, vertical mailing fold through a single letter of signature, and a red pencil notation to top, otherwise fine condition.
