Signed book: Gone with the Wind. Later (October 1938) printing. New York: Macmillan, 1938. Hardcover with period replacement dustjacket, 6 x 8.5, 1037 pages. Signed in fountain pen on the front free end page (both sides) and half-title page, “Clark Gable,” “Vivien Leigh,” “Olivia de Havilland,” “Ona Munson,” “Laura Hope Crews” (died 1942), “Prissy—butterfly mcqueen” [sic], and “Eddie Anderson.” According to the consignor, the signatures were obtained by Philip Mitchell, a then-young (and uncredited) sound mixer on the film whose later credits included The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and the television series The Long Ranger and The Twilight Zone. In very good condition overall, with staining, soiling, and losses to jacket, light rubbing and wear to extremities (slight toning to spine; fraying and small tears to spine ends), light toning to interior (including signed pages), and slight cracking to hinges (discreet glue reinforcement to front hinge). All of the signatures are clear and dark. Cast-signed copies of this iconic classic are extremely elusive. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
